How to look after our singing voices during the winter

'Tis the Season to be jolly! So no sore throats wanted here! Spread joy though song this year with Sing Star MKs top tips to beating the chill and keeping those festive voices singing "Simply having a wonderful Christmas Time"!     Sleep - This is the best healer for a tired voice. Rest the voice and try not to speak too much. Some people try whispering but we at Sing Stars dont recommend that as in truth this pushes the chords together in a harder way than your usual speech. Just try resting your voice and trying not to speak.  Atmosphere - Try to stay in a well ventilated room away from draughts and sudden temperature changes. A dry atmosphere is not good for the throat. Keep away from smoky rooms and absolutely NO SMOKING! Warmth - Make sure you keep yourselves warm. If going into the cold wear a scarf around your neck. I know only too well how performing on stage warm and sweating and then going into a cold tour bus or room so I always make sure I have scarves with me at this time of year. Fluids - Keep up your fluid intake this time of year, it re-hydrates your whole body! Try to stay away from ice cold drinks and fizzy drinks. Room temperature water is best. Your vocal chords all nicely warmed up and then being blasted by ice water is the same as going for a jog and then jumping into a cold lake. Your expanded muscles will not be happy with this and you will get problems. Steaming - We recommend a 10 minute steam twice a day when you are using your voice alot. Christmas is an exceptionally busy time for performers and therefore a steamer is a great option to sooth a tired voice. Steam inhalation helps move phlegm that sticks to your vocal cords. So great for winter chills. Diet - Try to eat foods that have a high water content, Fresh fruit and vegetables must be on your shopping lists in the winter when sore voices are around. Try to avoid dairy foods - sorry no chocolate or cheese! They induce the phlegm we are trying to remove. Throat Lozenges - These should only be used when your voice is out of use. When you are not singing! Throat Lozenges soothe and anaesthetise. If you sing while the anaesthetic is still in effect you will push your voice and make it worse. It merely masks the pain but in the long run makes the pain worse. Steer away from using these. If you do need them we recommend Vocalzones. Remedy Drink - A good drink to have if your voice is sore is a mixture of 1 tsp of honey, 1 tsp of lemon and a couple of slices of frsh ginger mixed together in hot water. Ginger is good for sore throats as it is an anti-inflammatory. Lemon cuts through phlegm and honey is soothing so each of these ingredients stand alone or together in hotwater is a great remedy drink. Warm up - When you feel like your voice has sufficiently rested try some gentle warm up before you start singing again. Do not push your voice or go to the outer perimeters of your range straight away. Be patient with your voice after a cold or sore throat, it will take time to regain your usual vocal stamina. What ever you do to remedy your sore throats and voices through the winter months always remember that a GOOD TECHNIQUE is the best preventative medicine you can apply. For the older children we sing traditional carols and fun christmas classics that they will know and love! The singalong starts at £80 for 1 hour singalong party for a midweek booking, £120 for a weekend date!

(2) CHRISTMAS DISCOS WITH FESTIVE PARTY GAMES Our Christmas Childrens Disco includes non stop party music and festive games for 1 hour. (longer lengths available on request) Music will be festive and suitable for the age of the children at the party. With an experienced childrens entertainer the children will get to join in lots of festive games and dance to their favourite christmas songs! * Santa can also come along to join in the fun! The childrens disco with party games start at £100 for 1 hour party for a midweek booking, £150 for a weekend date!

(3) CHRISTMAS DISCO (1hr) + SINGALONG PARTY ( 1hr) £160 midweek and £200 for weekend

Sing Stars provide party entertainment for children aged between 5 and 16. The parties can be adapted to perfectly suit the birthday boy or girls and to be suitable for the particular age group of your children and their friends.

Sing Stars MK can come to a venue provided by yourselves, a school hall, your childrens centre,  at your community/town hall or at your own private party at your home. We are also happy to help you find a venue as we have many party venues that we have provided entertainment for that would be perfect for hosting your party.

Sing Stars MK offer a few different options for your parties, age will determine what is included in the party but the party packages we have available are detailed below.

Childrens Sing Stars Par​t​i​es 

Sing Stars Mk offer childrens singing Parties for children aged 5-16. Each party will be structured to suit the age group of your children.

​

The party will include lots of fun and games and the chance for the party boys and girls to perform in their own little show for all the mums and dads, when they come to collect their budding stars at the end of the party.

The Sing Stars party can be 1-3 hours long. We bring a small unobtrusive speaker and some little lights for the show. We have lots of fun with musical games, tongue twisters and warm ups. While boosting the childrens confidence, encouraging their enthusiasm for performing they can learn new skills, strengthen their voices and sing out to their favourite songs.

We use backing tracks to modern and fun songs that we know they will love. You can even request the songs that your childrens party includes. Maybe a few of your birthday boy or girls favourites!



 A Sing Stars party gives your children and their friends the chance to shine, making sure the birthday girl or boy is the superstar at their own party. We also bring some props so the children can have lots of fun performing. Our team are all crb checked, with qualifications in performing and experience of working with children.

Prices start at £80 for Sing Star members of £100 for non-members.

Childrens Disco Party

Our Chidlrens Disco and Entertainment service is for 2 hours (if you require longer please let us know and we can discuss your requirements)



Our Disco parties includes Party Music perfectly suited to suit your childs age group.

Our Disco party also includes Party Dances and Games suitable for your childrens age group.We provide treats and certificates for winners and encourage lots of joining in...We also make sure the birthday girl or boy feels special throughout the party. 

We provide Led Disco Lighting and unobtrusive Speakers for your venue.

Sing Stars Tribute Parties 

Our Tribute parties can include any of the top artists of today. The children will get the chance to see their pop princess or pop prince perform for them and their friends in a 20 minute sound and lookalike show.

​

With small unobtrusive speakers and flashing lights, they can dance and singalong to their tribute acts favourite songs.

​

After the 30 minute show they get to meet the star where the children get to speak to the tribute and dress up themselves with a few props that we bring along.

​

Then the children get to be paparrazi at the party where they can have their photographs taken with the tribute.

​

For the end of the party we provide a disco, full of songs from the artist and similar artists that they may like. They can then enjoy singing and dancing and being pop stars themselves.

​

For a Tribute Party with a 30minute tribute show and 30 minute disco (which includes the meet and paparrazi section) prices starts are £200. If you would like to book a tribute Party for a longer length, perhaps with a longer show or a longer disco after please enquire for details.
